I find it funny that some bots just stand still, out in the open, everyone crowds around it, and nothing happens to it despite being given reports from nearly everyone in the district it's in.

Just clear you ignore list of all the gfhldgh pduzfhsph names daily. Those are trial accounts (10 hours online and then gone). That should ease up a bit on the 10 names ignore list, you could also delete any other players on your ignore list unless they are stalking you, because once they know you are on ignore, then they will forget you 99% of the time after a few days.
One fix for the trial whispers would be to limit the amount of whispers from trial accounts to maybe 10 a minute(one message avery 6 seconds sounds reasonable). This way legit players can test GW normally, but bots wont be able to PM hundreds of players in a district.
You could also implement an autoban on trial accounts which try to break this ammount drastically (ie the server registers and blocks more than 100 whispers a minute which is impossible for human players to manage).

just delete the whole whisper option on trial accounts... Trial should be used for people who want to see how the game works anyways...

The Balth Island spam bot has used up all of my ignore slots, this is getting very frustrating.
The only time I go there is to use the Master of Damage to test out some build ideas and I get instant spam on maping in. I report the bot EVERY time and yet they seam to have an infinite number of accounts to keep puting a new bot there every day.

I don't know; I assume search party can be used by trials but I can't confirm/deny for myself. Unless they're familiar with MMOs, though, I don't think it's fair to expect new players to know to bring up the party search window and start advertising.

Hm... they could count the number of reports and ignores and mute the guy for 24 hours if they are too much (100 ignores or 10 reports) as a preventive meassure.

I'm pretty sure no one is going to say it's not a problem, because it is. The hard part is finding a solution. Since these spammers are not in the same district as you, they cannot be reported in-game.

Make them fill in one of those images with the letters and numbers whenever they attempt to send a whisper. And 3 failed attempts during the duration of the trial = trial ended.
It will either stop them dead in their tracks or force them to find more child labourers to enter the codes constantly.

I only got it occasionally in Kamadan, so now I just very quickly pass through, or hang out there at around 8pm GMT (they seem to be very quiet at that time). Using the Asura gate system allows me to miss out Lion's Arch, another bot-spot, and thankfully there seem to be none in Kaineng (I very rarely visit Shing Jea these days, having vanquished Sunqua Vale and not having the motivation to try it again).
The whisper blocking system doesn't fail exactly, it's the combination of trial accounts and the balance of what trial players should be able to do vs. what bots shouldn't. It's a tricky thing.

Trial accts just shouldn't be able to whisper unless they get whispered first. Or, f this won't work prog wise for some reason, trials can't whisper at all. I don't see what the prob would be, they could still chat/team chat etc just not PM. A real user of a trial would understand the restriction and know they'd get the PM feature if/when they buy. The only ones who'd have a prob not being able to spam pms hither and yon would be those who want to abuse it and...screw 'em lol.

Just a question : anyone have an idea about how they decide to target someone. I mean why do they seem to choose 1 account over another. I have a couple of friends who seem to be in their lock.

I don't think its fair to flame anet for what the botters are doing. The trial is a good tool to make sales, so you can't simply remove it. I believe that the support team is doing as much as it can with its budget to suppress botting as much as possible. I'm just pleased to see that this issue is not being ignored..

There is no point in blocking the bots, they are always changing accounts. I don't block them and still get pm'ed... I made a list that confirms that they constantly changed accounts.

I agree that we should be able to make it that only friends/alliance members can PM you. Another good idea I think is to make trial accounts unable to PM people who haven't PMed them first or have them on there friends list. Thus, reducing if not totally stopping gold selling PM's.

Would be nice if you could ignore accounts rather than just characters, isn't hard to switch characters.
